Georgian Tourism

Georgia
Georgia occupies the central and eastern part of Caucasus . Its neighbors are the Russian Federation in the north, Azerbaijan in the east, Armenia in the south and Turkey in the south-east. It is a mountainous country, the northern border of which passes along the Big Caucasian ridge, and southern border — across Small Caucasus. In the west it is washed by Black sea. Local weather and the landscape epitomize meeting of the East and the West. Georgia is a country with ancient history and original unique culture. The country history is a long list of rises and downfalls of empires, intrusions of external enemies, violence and wars. But at the same time, this country has a huge cultural heritage. Georgia is a unique country possessing enormous tourism potential. Extended along the Black Sea coast, it has about 300 mountain (Abastumani, Bakuriani, Bahmaro, Gudauri, etc.), seaside (Kobuleti, Ureki, Batumi, and etc.), balneotherapeutic and mud (Borzhomi, Sairme, Likani, and etc.) health resorts, over 10 thousand monuments of archeology, history, architecture and art, and also numerous nature sanctuaries. And all these is concentrated within the small territory occupied by the hospitable and distinctive people. Temples and monasteries are the most typical and interesting sights of the country. Here, on this small area, a large number of these monuments of faith and history is concentrated.  



Tbilisi

The capital of Georgia – town Tbilisi is one of the most ancient cities of the world. It is 1500 years old. Until 1936 the city was called Tiflis in Russian transcription. It was called so due to warm sulfuric wells (translated from Georgian «tbili» means "warm"). The city is filled by unique national flavor. Almost all buildings in historical city centre and at the bottom of mountain Mtatsminda represent historical or cultural monuments. Georgian Orthodox church, the Armenian Apostolic church, the Synagogue and the Muslim mosque are located in the very centre of old Tbilisi. By the quantity of cultural monuments and constructions, Tbilisi is among the richest cities of the world. Here is the list of some sights in Tbilisi: "Sameba" Cathedral ( 21 century) that is the biggest Cathedral in the world Metehi" Cathedral " ( 13 century) with the monument of the founder of Tbilisi - Vakhtang Gorgasalu "Narikala" Fortress with a beautiful temple in its yard. Memorable photos could be taken from the top of towers. The modern bridge, named "WORLD BRIDGE" by the country president, which is the second in the world by the complexity of its architecture. "Sioni" Temple, located on the left coast of the bridge and well-known by its wonder-making icons. Sion Cathedral – is the current residence of the Catholicos of Georgia. Mountain "Mtatsminda" with famous wonderful garden "Funiculer" (mountain lift), from which one can clearly view all Tbilisi. Тhe Pantheon where many famous writers, actors, scientists, and national heroes of Georgia are buried. Well known sulfuric baths in the place called "Abanotubani" Paliashvili Opera building (1851).



Gudauri

Gudauri is situated on the main Caucasian range not far from the Cross Pass on the Georgian Military Road, at 120 km distance from Tbilisi.
In winter time Gudauri reminds a fairy tale miracle shining under the Sun rays. Even in a year scarce of snow, Gudauri has a guaranteed snow cover starting December till April. Snow cover is 1.5 meters at average on the slopes. Being a highland resort Gudauri still is known for its warm, sunny and still days.
Slopes of Gudauri provide facilities for skiers of all abilities.Runs at every level will suit beginners, snowboarders and professional skiers alike. The total length of downhill skiing runs maintained by snow tractors and served by experienced personnel reaches 16 km. Welcome to a holiday of snow.

Hiking in the presence of lofty 5000 meter peaks is truly invigorating - the more so due to the area's lack of discovery. Local companies and guides offer a splendid selection of walking and trekking tours through this majestic scenery.

One memorable hike starts near Gudauri then leads through the dramatic Khada valley. A moderate trek along mountain ridges and meadows takes you to the comfortable Khada hut at 2670m with its opportunities for overnight stays. Similarly, just north of the Jvari Pass the Truso valley, famous for its mineral water, invites hikers into an area of dramatic high altitude scenery. The village of Sno in the Kazbegi valley draws rock climbers from all over the world. The peaks of Chaukhi Mountain are perfectly designed for climbs of all levels.

Most famous of all hikes in the area starts at the foot of the looming Mt Kazbek. You walk through Gergeti village; wind up a small mountainside to the Holy Trinity Church, perched dramatically on a hillock under the dramatic gaze of Mt Kazbek.



Batumi
One of the larger cities of Georgia, Batumi is located close to the Turkish border and is often named as the summer capital of the country. The city features beautiful architecture and has its own charm different from the other cities of Georgia. Batumi has a sizeable Muslim population. There are a few halal restaurants and mosques in Batumi making it a favorable halal holiday destination. The city is located along the coast of Black Sea and offers visitors with a large number of fun activities and attractions to see.
Batumi is the capital of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara in Georgia. An important city and wonderful destination to visit, Batumi attracts a number of visitors. During the summer months visitors can enjoy a great time along the Black Sea Beach. The Batumi Boulevard is good to enjoy a walk especially during the evening. The city is good to visit at any time of the year as every season has its own charm and visitors can make the most of the stay in Batumi.

The Batumi Botanical Garden is home to different types of plants. The Miracle Park and the 6 May Park also make good places to spend some time in. The ruinsof Gonio Fortress are located along the sea shore and offers great views. The Oceanarium or the Dolphinerium is an interesting attraction to visit. Batumi is also home to several museums. The Adjara Arts Museum has a wonderful collection of Georgia arts. The Noble Technological Museum is one of the latest museums in the city and is quite remarkable.

Batumi though not a shopper’s haven it has some good shops selling souvenirs and local arts and crafts. Shopping in Batumi is quite affordable and visitors can find a good antique collection in the shops around the city center and in Old Batumi.

Nearby Airports

The Batumi International Airport located 2km from the Batumi city center is the main airport serving the area. From the airport there are buses, minibuses and taxis easily available to ply visitors to the city.
Halal Restaurants

There are a few halal restaurants in Batumi most of them offering Turkish cuisine. The Grand Grill Türk Restaurant is the most popular halal restaurant in the city.
Mosques

There is only one mosque in Batumi, the Orta Jame Mosque. It is a beautiful building with fine frescos and Quranic inscriptions.
